Point Reyes National Seashore is one of California’s most soulful places to elope. Moody fog, wild cliffs, quiet beaches, and endless ocean horizons create a setting that feels intimate and timeless. It’s perfect for couples who want their wedding day to feel slow, meaningful, and deeply connected to nature.
And the best part? You can elope here for free.
If you’re dreaming of a simple ceremony with just the two of you (or a small group of loved ones), Point Reyes allows weddings without a permit as long as you follow a few important guidelines. My role is to help you turn those guidelines into a plan that feels effortless and intentional.
Yes. Point Reyes National Seashore allows small, low-impact ceremonies without a permit if:
Think of your elopement as blending into the landscape rather than setting up a scene. Quiet, respectful, and beautifully intentional.
These locations are perfect for intimate ceremonies and don’t require permits for small groups. When we plan your elopement together, we’ll choose a spot based on light, privacy, accessibility, and what feels most like you.

Limantour Beach
Wide, peaceful, and full of soft light. Ideal for barefoot vows and sunset ceremonies.
Kehoe Beach
Rolling green hills meet the ocean. Less crowded and wonderfully serene.
Sculptured Beach
A dramatic and adventurous option with rock formations and tide pools. Best at low tide and for couples who love exploring.
Chimney Rock Trail
Cliffside views and wildflowers in spring. A short hike with big rewards.
Pierce Point Ranch
Rustic barns, open fields, and tule elk wandering nearby. A uniquely Point Reyes backdrop.

To keep your elopement free and permitted:

Your ceremony should feel like a moment that naturally belongs in the landscape.
Point Reyes is famous for fog and wind, which adds to its wild, romantic feel.
Best seasons:
Spring for wildflowers and green hills
Fall for clearer skies and fewer crowds
Winter for dramatic weather and solitude
Best time of day:
Weekdays for privacy
Sunrise or sunset for soft light and quiet beaches
Fog is not a flaw here. It’s part of the magic.
You’ll need a California marriage license from any county clerk in California.
Once signed, your marriage is legal and official.
Point Reyes is often cool and windy, even in summer.
This is an adventure elopement. Comfort and beauty can coexist.
Because it’s quiet.
Because it’s wild.
Because it strips away expectations and leaves only what matters.
Your wedding day doesn’t need a venue to feel sacred. It just needs intention, love, and space to breathe.
Point Reyes offers you an unrushed, intimate way to say yes with the California coast as your witness.
Do I need a permit to elope in Point Reyes?
Not if your group is under 25 people and you don’t bring decorations, chairs, or amplified sound. When we work together, I’ll help you build a plan that fits within these guidelines so everything feels easy and stress-free.
Can we bring guests?
Yes, as long as your total group size is 25 or fewer people. We’ll talk through guest logistics and choose a ceremony spot that allows space and privacy for everyone.
Can our dog be part of our elopement?
If having your dog with you is important, we’ll talk about that during planning and create a location plan that works with current park rules. Some areas of Point Reyes allow dogs and others don’t, so together we’ll choose a ceremony spot that feels meaningful while staying respectful of the park guidelines. Your elopement should include who matters most to you, paws included.
What if it’s foggy or windy?
Fog is part of the Point Reyes experience and often creates the most romantic, cinematic light. We’ll also build in backup locations so your day feels calm no matter what the weather brings.
What about parking and accessibility?
We’ll choose locations that match your comfort level, whether that’s a short walk from the car or a more adventurous trail with sweeping views.
Do we need witnesses?
Only your officiant is required. No additional witnesses are necessary in California.
If you’re dreaming of an intimate, unrushed ceremony along the cliffs or beaches of Point Reyes, I’d love to help you plan a day that feels true to you. From choosing the right location and creating a relaxed timeline to finding dog-friendly options if your pup is part of your story, I’m here to guide you every step of the way.
